The residency.

A quarter of considered editorial output — twelve pieces, one voice, one team.

For brands that have done the voice work and need a quarter of editorial output to keep momentum. The Residency is twelve pieces of writing across thirteen weeks — campaigns, essays, emails, landing pages, the considered piece your team has not had time to write — produced by the same two writers against the same documented voice, with a weekly editorial meeting and a single point of contact.

What is in the engagement.

Everything below is in the engagement letter. Nothing surprising appears later.
  • I A two-day editorial planning sprint at the start of the quarter — twelve briefs locked in, ordered, dated
  • II Twelve pieces of writing across thirteen weeks, briefed at the sprint and produced on schedule
  • III A weekly thirty-minute editorial meeting — the meeting is the only meeting
  • IV A shared editorial calendar maintained by us, visible to your team
  • V Two emergency rewrites per quarter — for the moments the calendar collides with reality
  • VI A close-of-quarter retrospective document — what we wrote, what worked, what we would do differently
  • VII A continuation discount of fifteen percent if you commission a second quarter without a break

How it runs.

The phases of the engagement, in order, with the working day boundaries that govern them.
Sprint

Sprint

Two days at the start of the quarter. We lock in twelve briefs, dated, ordered, with the source materials for each. The sprint is the calendar; once it is signed the calendar is real.

Cadence

Cadence

A weekly thirty-minute editorial meeting. The meeting reviews last week's piece, briefs this week's, surfaces friction. The meeting is the only meeting.

Pieces

Pieces

One considered piece per week on average, with some weeks holding two short pieces and some weeks holding one long one. The cadence is set at the sprint, not negotiated on the fly.

Reset

Reset

Two emergency rewrites are held in reserve for the inevitable moment the calendar collides with reality. After two, additional resets are billed at the hourly rate.

Close

Close

Week thirteen is a one-hour retrospective and a written close-of-quarter document. If a second quarter is commissioned without a break, the next quarter is priced at a fifteen percent continuation discount.

Who this is for.

The engagements we say yes to, and the kinds of work this one tends to be the right answer for.

A post-Voice brand that needs a quarter of editorial output to keep the work coming. A marketing team that has the strategy but not the writers. A series-B or series-C company shipping enough campaigns that one writer is not enough but a hire is not yet warranted. Any team that wants twelve good pieces by the end of the quarter instead of forty mediocre ones.
